A 4-hour tour provides an excellent guided shelling experience. Six hours gives the crew more opportunity to work around changing tides and conditions and gives you more time to search rather than feeling like you need to leave an area just as you’re getting into the shelling.

Does a 6-hour tour give me a better chance of finding rare shells?
More time gives you more opportunity to search, but it doesn’t guarantee rare shells.
Shelling is affected by tides, currents, wind, weather and what nature has deposited. Rare finds such as Junonias are never predictable. The advantage of six hours is simply having more time and opportunity to explore productive areas with an experienced guide..
Will we visit more than one shelling location?
Possibly. Your captain and guide determine the day’s itinerary based on tides, water conditions and what they’re seeing in the shelling areas.
The goal isn’t to visit a predetermined number of islands. If one location is producing excellent shelling, it may make sense to stay. If conditions favor moving, the additional time gives the crew flexibility to explore another area.

Travel time depends on where your captain chooses to go, and the itinerary can change with tides, weather and shelling conditions. The purpose of the longer trip is to give you an unhurried shelling experience rather than follow a rigid schedule.
What shells might we find on a 6-Hour Guided Tour?
The Ten Thousand Islands support an extraordinary variety of Southwest Florida shells. Finds can include Florida Horse Conchs, Lightning Whelks, True and Banded Tulips, Alphabet Cones, Fighting Conchs, Olives, Nutmegs, Pear Whelks and many others.
Junonias and other uncommon specimens are possible but genuinely rare. No particular species can be guaranteed.
What should I bring for a six-hour shelling trip?
Plan for an extended day outdoors. Bring secure protective footwear for wading and natural island terrain, a hat, polarized sunglasses, lotion sunscreen, shell bags or buckets, a waterproof phone case and any personal items you’ll need.
Bring enough food and snacks for the trip. A lightweight jacket or towel can also be useful depending on the season.
What are the beaches and walking conditions like?
These are remote natural barrier islands, not maintained or groomed beaches.
Conditions can include loose and sharp shells, uneven shell beds, soft sand, mud and muck, shallow water, and mangrove roots or stumps protruding through the sand or submerged areas.
Secure water shoes or other protective footwear are strongly recommended. Guests should be prepared for wading and walking over naturally uneven terrain.
Can we collect live shells or marine animals?
No. Treasure Seekers follows an empty-shell-only approach to ethical shelling.
Shells containing living animals should remain where they are or be gently returned to the water. Your guide can help determine whether a shell is occupied and introduce you to the living marine animals encountered during the trip.
What happens if weather changes during a six-hour tour?
